Dear SCCS families,

Welcome to the new school year! We love seeing so many fun photos and hearing great first day reports from a good number of families who have already begun school. If you have yet to start, no problem; that flexibility is part of the beauty of teaching your children at home.

This school newsletter is something I try to send monthly (or slightly less often around the holidays) to share encouragement and remind you of opportunities to connect with other families in our school. They usually are brief, but have dates you want to pay attention to, or other information that might be useful to you, so please try to read them. The newsletters will also be copied to the website, if you ever need to look back over one and did not save it in your mail. This news may have more than usual since it is the first for the year.

PARK DAY
We plan to kick off the year as a school with our first outdoor event for the 2022 school year with a Picnic and Park Day this Friday! Details are here and we would love to see you in person and hang out at Buck Creek Park. The whole family is welcome!

I will also bring handbooks and the field trip shirts we have left, if you were unable to make it to the family meeting last month. Speaking of shirts, if your children got the red SCCS shirts at that meeting, this park day is a great time to wear them!

UPDATES to WEBSITE
Melisha and I have been diligently working to add events and plan activities for the year. We are still working on Tween/Teen Events and Moms' Support Groups. There will also be a Parents' Night Out before the holidays, and a special night for moms to create and enjoy time together. If you offered to help be an area support group host, we will be in touch soon about that so thanks for being willing!

SURVEY
Melisha sent out a survey this week. We would love your feedback if you have not replied yet. Please check your inbox or the website to answer a short group of questions.

FIELD TRIPS RSVPs
Next, please make note of the RSVP deadlines for multiple field trips that are on the website now listed under Events. You can scroll down through the list version of activities, or choose the calendar icon under Events, and view them on the monthly calendars. We need to adhere to these response deadlines so that I can invoice you for payment, and then make our group reservations especially to get good seats for events such as AL Ballet, Alabama Symphony, and Children's Theatre.

We need a minimum number of students to book the trip to Cook Museum, so if you are thinking about this one, please sign up by this Saturday.

Again, super important reminder:
RSVPs due 9/1 on our website for all Alabama Ballet, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and Birmginham Children's Theatre. If you plan to attend any of these, you must sign up per event on the listing on ShelbyCrossingsChristian.com, and pay upon receipt of invoice that I will send soon after 9/1. Please watch for that so that I can promptly order tickets for each event for the whole school.
DID YOU KNOW?
A common question about field trips is:
What about our younger than school age child(ren)? Can siblings come along on field trips?

Answer:
YES! Nearly all of our events are for the entire family. On the rare occasion that the location limits attendees, or the subject matter really is geared toward a specific age group, we will tell you. Generally speaking, this is one of the best parts of home education in my opinion; the opportunity for kids of all ages to mingle, enjoy each other's company, and learn from one another.

That's all for now. Thank you for being part of our school, and I hope to see you soon!
