Back to School Picnic/Park Day 2022

8/19 12:00 pm Join us at noon for park day together: bring a picnic, bikes to ride on trails, and just hang out so your kids can meet other SCCS students and you can get to know other parents. We will be at the Buck Creek Trail pavilion, located behind the Senior Center off of Hwy 119. There's a pavilion for shade and a cool creek to cool off in too. Parking is in front of the Alabaster Municipal Center, or behind in the gravel lot. 


Cook Museum of Natural Science

We are excited about visiting this awesome museum in Decatur. Bring a sack lunch and spend the morning with us exploring this state of the art science museum. Read here for more info.

Easy Cooking Skills with Fresh Veggies and Fruit - 9am-1030am    Your children will (hopefully) pick fresh veggies from the garden and learn how to create several easy masterpieces they will enjoy eating.

ASO: Once Upon a Time

Friday 10/21/2022 10:00 am Samford University Wright Center Adventure with heroes, villains, and heroines--have the best stories already been told? Your students can help the Alabama Symphony Orchestra write the next epic fantasy with "Once Upon a Time." Explore the elements of storytelling, and how music with your imagination can come together in this interactive 'choose your own” concert experience.The orchestra will also be joined by opera singers and ballet dancers to help ASO musicians and your students tell the next great story! Especially geared to grades 3-5.

ASO: Syphonic Stories

3/16/23  10:00 Explore new and familiar stories and characters as the ASO takes you on storybook journeys through music! Learn about the orchestra families, orchestral instruments and how composers use melodies, rhythms and dynamics to bring their stories to life, including a trip to the zoo through Gregory Smith's "Zoo Song" where students will encounter musically depicted animals and a beautiful surprise ending to their trip through a young girl's eyes.


ASO: Romeo and Juliet

3/23/23 10:00   Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet, Fantasy-Overture features a score filled with the innocence and heartfelt passion of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved works. Get a behind the scenes look at the composition with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra through themes, motifs, and more! Conductor Chris Confessore will divide this epic piece into sections to illustrate how music can be used to tell a story. These concerts are free, but reservations are required. Especially geared to grades 6-12. Located at UAB's Alys Stephens Center - Jemison Hall.
