Dear SCCS Parents,
Our school is fortunate to have your family with us this year. It has been great to hear from numerous folks who say they're starting the semester with excitement and that their children are really enjoying school so far. I love to hear that! If your family is like ours, and starting late, or struggling a bit with the routine of school already, do not be discouraged! We will all have ups and downs, and I assure you, there is a wide variety of normal among those emotions. Thankfully, we have the opportunity to start over daily since "tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet," a favorite quote of mine by Anne of Green Gables. Let's remember the grace God gives us on the hard days, and savor the ones that go smoothly.
Instagram is a fun way to document with cell phone photographs. If you use Instagram, then feel free to share your school related photos with us! I am going to suggest hashtags following the event descriptions below, so we can more easily follow events as they're posted throughout the year, and think it will be a fun opportunity for us! Join us if you like!
I am looking forward to seeing more of you at some upcoming events, and am thankful that some families have joined us at recent park days, field trips and support group already. Those are great times to connect with other families, so as your schedule allows, feel free to come.
Below are the events for September, as a reminder. Remember that BCT tickets and the Alabama Nature Center reservations were paid for already, so don't forget to attend if you RSVPd for these trips. You can still participate in any of the other activities if you have not RSVPd yet. Just go to the links below and they will take you to the SCCS website.
In honor of Labor Day approaching, I am sharing some verses I have been reading as I pondered what the Bible says about "labor." There are plenty of passages you can read about work. These verses are sometimes directed to the Israelites, or the early church, and sometimes they're instruction, or exhortation, but regardless, I think we can see some things that benefit us in these passages.
Psalm 128:1-4
Blessed are all who fear the Lord, who walk in obedience to him.
You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house;
your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
Yes, this will be the blessing for the man who fears the Lord.
Hebrews 6:10
For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have showed toward his name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
Sometimes the "labor" mentioned above is an investment of physical work, and sometimes it is more of a relational or spiritual effort. One thing these verses all have in common is that the people mentioned have a relationship with the Lord. God also promises reward for their labor, which is super encouraging to me as a wife and mom. There are times I can feel overwhelmed with work of all kinds, as there is housework, cooking, teaching, people needing comfort or support, and multiple other needs in and outside our home. The
labor seems unending. However, these verses remind us that God sees what we are doing in His name, there will be fruit from that investment of our time, and that He is the One for which we are ultimately working. Let that encourage you this week ahead! Our labor is valuable, and will result in eternal benefits if we lean on Christ to equip and strengthen us.
