We had a good meeting last week with Coach Skip Coulter regarding the future Debate Club we will host again through the school. I’m including those who attended and others I thought may benefit from
this info. Feel free to share with others who you think may be interested.
Please read the info below and reply to let me know if you are interested and your student is able to commit to a six week course this fall.
In our meeting, Coach covered his 20 years of coaching at Samford University and then junior and high school for an additional 20 years, with students competing successfully at the national level. More importantly he is passionate about educating students in constructive communication and the value in knowing how to respectfully engage in discussion with others, especially so that we can share the love of Jesus.
Students will learn the method of public forum debate and practice each side of a given argument with a partner. They will learn through research to make their points and give evidence to support them. It’s a very encouraging and effective course that I highly recommend! Attached are notes Coach shared with us too.
We hope to find a day that works best for everyone and usually that is a Tuesday or Wednesday (2 or 3 pm) for a two hour session. Please give your input on the day that works best for your family. Cost will be $15/weekly with a discount available for a second student within a family paid to the school who will then handle paying Coach.
